Dreadtober Update - #1

Hey folks.

Done some more work to my Contemptor yesterday, and progressed pretty far. Got a few hours in the eve so I started to assemble all the parts I had dissected during the week

Quick recap, to start I sawed the torso away from the crotch piece and then set to work hacking off the left hand hip joint on the leg, and removing both legs from the crotch. I also decided to saw off the head so I could reposition it at an angle to get even more movement from the kit. I then inserted plasticard rods into the joints so I could start to play with the positioning of each part.

Once I had a rough idea of what I wanted I glued the first (whole) leg onto the crotch and down onto the base. This gave me a firm structure to start finalising the rest of the body positions. After playing around with different poses and finding one I was happy with I fixed the torso as well.

I am pretty keen on magnetising everything nowadays for maximum flexibility, and this conversion is no different. Both arms have been magnetised (which was a little bit of a pain to do) and so far the assault cannon has also been done. I plan to run this as a dakka dread at the mo so I am waiting on another cannon for the other arm (which I can hopefully pillage from one of my mates).

Last stage before beddy byes was to whip out the blue tac and do a bit of trial positioning to see how he was coming together. Pretty pleased so far I have to say. Tomorrow I will start on the chopped up leg to get that all fixed and sculpted and add the mandatory Space Wolves bling to him.

Should be able to do more work on him tomorrow and get another update posted :)

  1. Looking good so far! I've joined with my BaC Contemptor now as I really need to get it off the To-Do pile

    1. Thanks Siph. Kinda wish I had not cut the left leg off at the knee now as it is proving a right pain to sculpt and look right.

Yeah saw yours yesterday. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it :)

  2. Looking good there.
I am slowly adapting to this idea of magnets on minis.

    1. Thanks Rory :)

Magnetising is the way forward. I do it with everything now and I have never regretted the small amount of effort it has cost me

  3. Hey Naf!
2 things. 1 - I have a spare Kheres assault cannon if you are still trying to find one, and 2 - I don't wanna sound patronising but you do know that 40k contemptors can only take 1 kheres cannons don't you?

    1. Hey dude, I have managed to get hold of one now, but thank you anyway :)

I plan to run him as a mortis pattern contemptor for my 30k wolves, so no worries there. I have magnetised both arms so I can change weapons if I need a different variant or loadout, so it can be run in both systems :)

  4. Thanks for the update. I was contemplating magnetizing my two BaC Contemptors. You convinced me to do and where to place the magnets. Thanks.

    1. Magnetising makes them incredibly versatile. I have magnetised most of my 5 contemptors so all the weapons and now interchangeable and I can run most load outs now. Totally worth it

  5. I magentized a lot of my Carcharodons because at least half of the army is Forgeworld and I did it to save money. I have one issue. The magnets I used on my Centurions arms are not strong enough to hold the siege drills. I am trying to figure out where to put a third magnet to hold the drills.

    1. What size and strength magnets did you use? For my terminators I used 3x2 N52 neodymium magnets which work fine. Maybe for centurions 4x2's would be more suitable

For the contemptor I have used 6x1 magnets which are more than sufficient for the job
