Carnival Venom Crew Converted & Painting Progress

Just a quick one today folks.

I have been making a cast of a top hat to use for the main gunner of my venom, and finally got it cleaned up and attached to his head today. I can now show you the finished crew before I get them all painted up.

The first chappie is using a pair of sitting legs I found in a box (no idea where they are from) and thought they would be perfect for someone to be perching on the side wing, kinda hitching a ride. A wych body, Brettonian jester head and empire trumpeter arm set off a nice little figure and I had a faint chuckle when I tacked him to the side for a trial fit. They next was the preening prince on the LHS. I found an Elf armoured torso in the bits box, and then dug around for a pair of legs that would make a nice pose on the side. I had to do a little green stuff work to make them fit/work together but they end pose had a nice prance to it. There was a half completed head that I had given up sculpting the hat for, so I cracked on and finished it up. He is a right prince now ;). The gunner was the last, but in some ways the most simple. I trimmed a cloak down to fit and bent the legs a little and then went ahead and made a cast of one of the Incubi hats so I could mass produce top hats at my leasure :). Once cast I cut his masked head so the hat sat at a jaunty angle, and voila, all complete. They do look a bit odd on their own but once mounted they look pretty quirky, trust me ;)

Lastly I just wanted to show you a quick pic of the venom near completion. I have the base and varnish stages to do yet, but pretty pleased with how it is looking so far. Hopefully I can get the crew painted pretty quickly and post up the fully completed venom up by next weekend at the latest. Once this is done my 750pt list for double trouble will be complete :)

    1. Thanks Jeff :) I hope they all work once painted. It is always a risk because of all the colours and patterns

  3. I'll have to talk you into sending me a top hat and seeing what I can stick it on :-) Great work as always NafNaf, though I want to see a picture of this wonderful bitz box of yours that you magically pull out these pieces of wonder!

    1. Done :) Send me your address and I will post one out to you(nafnaff85@gmail.com). I think I might do a bits box post (or tag it onto my next) now you mention it. It is full of funky things I have collected over the years.

    2. Awesome, thanks! Now to rummage my bits to find the right pieces...
We should all do a bits box day, though much of mine will be the dreaded closet of doom with all the poor models waiting for some love

  4. Very characterful as always. I was wondering if you'd get around to creating a top hat cast ;)

That Venom looks great as well. I could never work such bold colors together in a way that works, yet somehow you manage it.

    1. Thanks Thor. Yeah I am glad those colours do work. It can be a bit if a risk adding a bunch of colours all togetherm but the important thing is to have a background colour to tie them all together (I use red across the whole army to do this) as this does help to tone them a little and make more sense of them.
I cant believe it has taken me so long to do a cast, top hats are awesome :D

  6. Love the carnival army. These guys are great. Love the top hat and jester head. He looks like he would be very comfortable sitting on the wing of the venom. Great work!

    1. Thanks Royce :)

They always make me smile when I work on them, which is a good things as I will always come back to them time and again with some new wacky idea to work on. My opponents seem to enjoy playing against them too :)

  7. Well done on casting that up, it looks good from the pics. Looknig forward to seeing some paint on it now, hint hint ;)

Always been envious of your bits box. You seem to have endless supplies of perfect pieces, more likely you are just very good at putting bits together in a coherent way.

    1. Yeah it came out really well. Only a few minor bubbles but I can work them out. I will hopefully get them primed tmoz so I can crack on with them.
I have a bits box for each army project I do, and usually go on a shopping/trading spree when I start a new project and then carry on adding to it when I find bits that I think may come in handy one day
