Hey all.
Done a load of new photos for La Danse Macabre as some of them were pretty dated and were taken at the beginning of my blogging journey. Getting them all collated and in one place is a good way to do a showcase of where I am at so far, and it is always nice to see some older models that have got lost in the annals of time.
I am also entering the pics to White Dwarf for their readers photo section, and if I am lucky they might show one or two. Pretty happy with the quality and composition of the pictures, although there is always room to improve. Would love to hear your feedback on them, ways I can make them better, quality, model placing and composition etc. I used a light box for all of these photos but have learnt one or two things even so. I did it all in a dark room as my missus was asleep, and I think this had had a bit of an impact on the vibrancy of some of the photos. Lesson for next time is... put the light on :)
Here are the pics :)

They look great...again ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm almost tempted to shoot some of my stuff again now that I have a backdrop, and a better camera, but it would take me months to pull that off. Nah, I'm good :)
Good luck getting these into WD!
Thanks :)
DeleteI think I wouldn't have done it apart from needing to submit them for the mag. I am pleased I have done now, as they are now all the same quality . If you have an hour or two spare it is def worth it to do them all again
I'll probably do it with a few worthy models, but probably not the rank and file.
DeleteThose are absolutely spectacular, man - Brilliant from concept to execution, bravo!
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. Feels good to get them all the same quality at last
DeleteGreat to see new cleaner pictures for them. Always been a fan of them so it is great to see better pictures.
ReplyDeleteI still need to look at home I can duplicate the top hat you sent me.
Thanks Rory :)
DeleteMaybe try blu stuff and do a Green stuff press mould. Should work no probs
Insanely fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much :)
DeleteThe photography really shows off just how amazing your paint skills are dude and how well executed the theme is for the force. Definitely worth the reshoot.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, thanks dude. Makes it all worth it :)
DeleteKinda missing not working on these now. Been a good few months since I painted anything for this
Sometimes I wish I had money to just hand out awards so I could send a bunch to you. My goodness man. My goodness. Awe and smiles is all I got over here.
ReplyDeleteHaha :D thanks Greg. Much appreciated as always :)
DeleteI never realised how well they all tied together. They must look fabulous en masse on the table!
ReplyDeleteDespite how they look, you can still tell what units they represent, and that's pretty cool. Well done!
Thank you :) really pleased they tie in together as a force, as that has always been a challenge, keeping their individuality and garish colours but trying to get them all to work together as well.
DeleteIt is not often I get them out to game to be honest, as I love hobbying about 40k much more than I do playing it at the mo. Still, it does give me a fuzzy feeling inside when I do get to use them, and my opponents always enjoy facing off against them :D
These guys just blow me away every time I see them. One of the coolest 40K Armies I've ever seen. Amazing work. Best of luck on getting a WD spot, they absolutely deserve to be seen as widely as possible.
ReplyDeleteThanks dude. I would be well chuffed if I could get a spot, although I am having a little trouble sending the images over to them st the mo
DeleteLe Sigh Nathaniel. You make me want to douse myself in kerosene let alone my miniatures! Simply beautiful and if anything the pictures still don't do them justice compared to seeing them in the flesh!
ReplyDeleteHahaha don't do that matey :D
DeleteThanks very much. Pleased that you think they do look better in the flesh :)
Well.. Ok (puts kerosene down and lights a cigarette.. oh Fu...)
DeleteDefinitely better in the flesh, I think its just one of those things that even photos as good as yours are only capturing a small look. When you can walk around your miniatures they're like small dioramas with lots of little bits jumping out every time you freshly inspect the same model a second time.
Great looking army NafNaf, a real treat to see.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures seem a bit dull to me, not really making the models and paint scheme pop (maybe it's just my computer). Might be worth trying them again with the light on as you said.
Ya very much dude :)
DeleteYeah I checked them on my works computer and they do look a little dull. Def think it was the dark room that did not help that. Lesson learnt for next time
Absolutely fantastic to see the whole collection in a showcase. If GW doesn't invite you over for an Army of the Month, we should riot on Twitter :-)
ReplyDeleteLooking at your pictures, I can tell you only have the strong light from the top. It's causing the strong shadows underneath. I found for using my Foldio that I need a soft light from the bottom as well. And yeah, adding more light in the room will help make the colors pop too.
Haha thanks dude, just to get a few pics in would be enough to make me chuffed :)
DeleteYes there is lots of light from the top, as well as the dark room causing the camera to struggle with the bright colours. What do you use for the soft light at the base?
