Returned from blog wars 9

Thats right folks, I have arrived back unscathed from a miasma of imperial knights, lords of war and other such nasties ;). It was a fantastically run tournament, with some stunning armies and some interesting And fluffy army selections (and a few nasty ones too :D).

I had a fabulous tournament, with 3 brilliant games against some really cool dudes, and it was great to finally put some faces to the awesome people I have been chatting to over the blogosphere :). I will do a brief write up of my games during the week. I managed to get pics of only the first game (doh!) as I completely forgot to do so for the next couple, but I can still remember what happened fortunately :)

There was 50 people attending the tournament, and quite a few had bought lords of war, with 4 lists toting 3 of the darn things, but overall the reception of lords of war in general seemed pretty positive, although Alex, the tournament organiser will be posting up on his blog asking for feedback on the event and the 3 knight question (To be or not to be). I was lucky that I did not face any, as I am pretty sure I would have been crushed by them. I have to make some changes to my army selection going forward, as the choices I made in my list design did not have the answers to quite a few things that are standard in games of tournament 40k right now.

I am definately going to the next one in November, and will start some playtesting pretty soon, although I will take a break from painting the wolves for a little bit and focus on my Dark Eldar carnival for a little bit.

.......Oh and I somehow managed to come 5th ;)

Catch you all soon

NafNaf :)

  1. You did great and congratulations for the 5th :). I would have happily taken Jason's Necrons on rather than the three knight list with 2+invunerables and Farsight Bomb in my first game. I would go to another Blog Wars but only if the number of super heavies is limited. I turned up to play 40k not Apocalypse and every opponent on the day I faced was throwing round multiple apocalypse strength 10 AP 1 blasts or simple invincible with 6 hull points, 2++ and my heaviest weapon bouncing. At least he picked me out the F.A.T map in the raffle.

    :)

    1. Thanks dude :)

It is really frustrating to have a game against things you cannot do anything to kill. You were unlucky to face a superheavy (or 3) in each of your games. I am pretty sure he will be limiting them down to one in the next blog wars. Unfortunately though I think they are a fact of life now in 40k and we will have to tool our lists to be able to take out at least one during a game in the future.

  2. Congrats on your final placing mate, I was chuffed with 22nd overall and two wins having played eldar lists twice! Even the 'non cheesy' lists are tough as nails!

Was great to meet you finally and have a decent natter during the lunch break, sad I can't make it in November but best of luck!

    1. Thanks Nick. It was a pleasure to meet you and have a chat :). Your army looked absolutely stunning in person. the filigree detail on the vehicles just blew my mind. They look so much better than in photos (and they looked darn good in them too :) ).

Ypu played really well to get where you did against the eldar. I was actually surprised there were not many of them at blog wars, as I thought they would be dominating. Just shows ypur skills as a general that you managed to play as you did and beat them :).

I plan on getting a playable force of my DE painted for the next summer blog wars so I hope to see you there and get a game in :)

  3. Brilliant job naf :) I hope to draw you at blog wars 10! I am very much a fluffy player so I expect to be beaten but it'd be great to face off with a talent such as yourself.

    Well done again :)

    1. Hahaha you flatter me. Cheers Rob :). I am still pretty amazed myself at the result as I am generally a fairly fluffy player too, although my list was pretty hard, as thunderwolves can be tricky to deal with and hit very hard.

Yes I hope to meet you there for the 10th. I will still be bringing my wolves to that one, but have a slightly different list in mind that could be alot of fun to play with (and against) hopefully. My DE will be out for BW 11 hopefully.

  4. Thanks for a brilliant game Naf (White Scars first game), I was amazed at how close it was and the absolutely awful luck on both sides!
Well done on placing so high, it was a really tough army to fight, but not especially overpowered (I'm looking at you 3 Knights!).

    Was great meeting you.

    1. Yes it was a pleasure meeting you too :). We had a cracker of a game too. I still have a giggle about our appalling dice rolling :D

I am pleased to hear my army was too bad. I wanted to take a list that I enjoyed playing, was hard but also fun to play against, so I am glad it was all those things :)

    3. I've just finished writing up our battle, just need to put together the photos and a few maps to show the game.
It was a fantastic game, incredibly close throughout, even with atrocious dice rolling. It really did come down to the final turn!

    1. Cheers Greg :). I was pretty shocked to find out I placed so highly considering I drew my first game, won my second and lost my third (all were close apart from my win, which was massive)

It would be awesome if you could make it to a blog wars. One day I hope to make the trip to an Adepticon/Nova/LVO
