Dark Eldar Khymera - 3's a crowd....Grrrrrrr

Just a quickie today. Below are 3 more khymera's for my Carnival beast pack. I now have 7 painted (inc the monkey) and aim to get the rest done by the end of July (to do:- x2 khymera's, 1 monkey, 1 beastmaster).
These are done using the high elf lion chariot models, with no conversion work needed. I added colour to the saddles and the black and white pips for interest, and went with a more natural skin and mane tone to try and make them as close to the real thing as possible.
I like them but I forgot what paint I had used for the last batch and ended up with a slightly more yellow hue to the skin than before, but it still looks ok so I will keep it. Once the pack is all together these will make much more sense and the overall look of the beastpack is really nice and quirky. I am looking forward to getting it all finished and posted up.
Till next time!

  1. If you aren't completely happy with the skin, you can always apply glazes until you get the exact tone you want!

As always, huge fan of your style for this army!

    1. Thank you Greg :)

The colour was originally way off but I did 2 glazes to get it more yellow (and it helped hide my slightly iffy blending) The prob is the last 3 were more of a duller yellow, and I can't seem to get it to that. I can't for the life of me remember how I painted them before. When they are put together it is not too noticeable, so I will leave it for this lot. Knew I should have written the colour choice down last time :)

    2. One of the nice thing about bloggings...is by blogging, you make a record of stuff :). It's why I started it!

    3. Yes thats true :) I should really start to log what paint I used, as it would be a massive help when it comes to things like this.

As a side note, I only recently discovered the joys of making my own glazes. I was using just the GW ones before but managed to make my own and it is Bloody marvelous! :D. Works wonders for blending and especially for flat surfaces like the sides of raiders

  2. These models have a really good sense of forward motion when based just on their own. Looking great as always naff :)

    1. Cheers Rob :)

They are great models and as a pack they look even better. I was not sure when I started if the idea would work (and if I could find enough lions without the chariots) but happily it has all come together nicely. I am quite excited to get it all finished and post up the group shot. Not shown a few of the models on here yet, and all together it really works.

  3. Excellent idea..... which I know as I did exactly the same thing for my Khymeras! These look very nice indeed and I follow your take on DE with interest as I think they're a great army for conversions/using different figures.

    Mine (with far worse pictures!)

    1. Hey thanks Tea Urn :)

your khymera look great. they work very well as a pack (and it is a much cheaper option than buying all the finecast ones ;) ). I really want to push mine to get the whole thing done this month as they do look great all together.

ps. Added you to my blogroll :)

    2. They are lovely, I had mine "spare" as I bought 4 HE chariots to swap the fronts on the old raiders as I really didn't like the look of them. The alternative is chaos hounds for cheapness, but the elven look of the lions wins hands down.

    3. yeah that's why I went with mine. I liked the elven look too, and the whole lion thing fitted nicely with my carnival theme. I found a load on bits sites and ebay mainly for pretty cheap, so I did not have to buy the overpriced finecast ones :)

  4. I love it, and now you can use them for AoS as well :-) I think having the one as a slightly different color works in this case because it adds variety to the skin tone as compared to the armor or something that needs to be more uniform.

    1. Yes I hope they dont look too out of place to others. Now I have them in the cabinet it is not too noticeable to me at least really, and you are right that the varying skin tones can add some nice variety.

Lol :D age of Sigmar is a game I am not going to play. I have too many games on the go at the mo so I cant invest in another, especially with GW pricing :)
