Infinity Kempeitai

Got another one of my Ju Ying Japanes sectorial mini's painted and wanted to show it off :).
The Kempeitai is a terrorist that undermines the authority of the Yu Jing state and fights for the independence of the Japanese people. On the tabletop she is a pretty useful tool as once your lieutenant is killed by the enemy, she steps up and takes over command of your forces, without going into the loss of lieutenant state.
I wanted to follow the scheme of my Keisotsu, as I like the idea of a cohesive force on the battlefield, so I went with the white and orange scheme on her too. I am really happy with how the colours are working on different models, but the challenge will be painting a more heavily armoured foe with less cloth (and baggy pants).
A minor negative with this mini is the sculpt in certain places are a bit poor. The face in particular is very flat and I had a hard job to give it any depth and character (still dont think I have succeeded). Overall all is good though :)

NafNaf out!

  1. There are a lot of things to like about this model. First off...the intersection of the red and blue areas is fantastic. It's very clean, and makes for some awesome contrast and really catches the eye. The white is done well, as is the vibrant reds. You even got tiny little subtle details on the shoulder and that elbow green detail. Nice work!

If i had to critique anything, I'd say to give the gun a bit more flare. It lacks a bit when compared to the rest of the beautifully done model!

    1. Thanks Greg, really appreciate the kind words :). I am quite pleased with how these Infinity mini's are coming out. The scale is quite small and detailed compared to most 40k models, so I have had to be super careful when painting them.

I have to agree with you on the gun. I feel that it most certainly is the weak point over all the infinity minis I have painted so far. I did add the green to try and make it more interesting (as it was just bare metal at first) but it still does not work too well unfortunately. I may have to rethink the gun and revisit it later

  2. Same love the colors but I disagree a bit on the gun. The guy is clearly the focus not the gun. If u most do Kore on the gun then just some blending or making the difference between the barrel and the stock more distinct.

    1. Hi aruki. Thanks very much :).

I think I will not change this mini after mulling it over a bit last night. I still am not completely happy with the gun but maybe it is something to work on for a later model (got another in the works at the mo). I think making the stock more distinct will definately help the gun be a bit more interesting, and I am adding a little more green on the next dude, but you are right that the fig should be more of a focus on this one.

    2. I agree that the gun should not be the focal point of the model. My critque was mainly to show that I felt the gun didn't have the same "treatment" as the rest of the model.

The model looks like it was loved with the paintbrush...the gun looks like (speaking from greg's experience here), the painter was tired by the time they got to it :).

As always, my comments are just nit picks and it's a lovely model. Just sometimes I feel that a little bit of extra attention on a model can turn it from good into great!

    3. Hey Greg. Don't worry about giving me suggestion on how I can improve my painting, I really value constructive criticism, and it is one of the reasons I started to blog, so that I can get input on how to improve my painting or modelling ect.

I won't be changing the model purely because I hate re-visiting once a model is varnished, but I will be certainly trying to improve the next one I paint (and hopefully I will be able to see a progression over the group). I think aruki's suggestion to focus a little on the stock will help a lot, and I will try adding more colour to try and get it more interesting (and spend a little more time on it ;) ). you are correct in your assumption that the gun had less love than the rest, it did and it obviously shows. I am really happy with the rest of the model so it is a point for me to work on with the next chappie :)

I really appreciate the feedback both of you have given me, and have taken into consideration it all, and plan on improving on my painting as a result :)

    4. Always good to know! I always step lightly when mentioning any critque of a work. It's harder to know on the web how someone feels about the completeness of their models vs in person. In person you can get an instant idea of if they are looking for additional ways to improve etc.

I submitted a mini to the capital palette competition, and got some wonderful critiques that will really help me in the long run, so I try to slip them in there now and again instead of just gushing over everyones models (which I do pretty much regardless!)

    5. yes it is always hard to gauge tone ect when things are written on the net rather than face to face (texting is the same). I think critique is really important if you are looking to improve, so don't hold back if you can add any ways you think I can improve :). I may look into a painting comp over here and try and enter for the same reason.

    6. lol this is a perfect example where the internet doesn't work as well for communicating our opinions. But we all got it worked out in the end.
