Howdy hey folks. As promised I bring you the finished raider with crew mounted. Pimp dat riiiide mo fo's!
It took a while to get a good day to spray the dullcoat on, but luckily yesterday was a fine one and I got them all varnished and mounted on the raider and took the photos in the eve. I am super chuffed with the outcome of this pimped up ride. It is designed for my grotesque bodyguard and succubus to ride around in, which is why I went with a slight alternative scheme to my first raider and venom.
It needed to stand out as a more superior transport to the ones that carry round the common rabble such as the carnival warriors, so I went with the purple and orange lava lamp effect (I really enjoyed painting the lava effects) for the lower main chassis, and just the upper part as the main red of the army to tie it in. Once the crew were mounted I could finally see if my choices of colours clashed or complimented the raider. Luckily I think they work pretty well, but I would love to hear your thoughts on them.
Unusually for me I had alot of fun painting this vehicle (I usually hate them with a passion). I think I may have finally mastered the process, amd applying the lava lamp effects were very enjoyable. I have a few learnings to apply from this one to the next, so hopefullt I can crack that one out at a much faster rate.
I won't warble on too much, pictures speak louder than words after all :)
As an aside, a long long time ago in a land far far away I promised a few gentlemen by the names of Mr Thrower and Mr Hill that I would take an army shot of the carnival when I had enough for a core force. Well I now have 5 warriors and a last raider (with crew) to get done and then I will be at my target amount for the picture. Making monthly goals has really helped push this project along a little (although it does not seem like I have posted much on them recently) and I am chuffed I am now so close.

Loving tha lava lamp effect. Great job on the sails too.
ReplyDeleteCheers matey :)
DeleteLooking awesome. Can't wait for the full army shot. Any chance of you bringing it to Double Trouble so I can see it in the flesh?
ReplyDeleteThanks dude :)
DeleteI hope so. Planning to go to Nick's charity event (hero for a day) this year so depends on childcare & if missus lets me off daddy duties for two tournaments (or any)
Very colourful.

Cheers Tony :)
DeleteLoving it. Can't wait for the group pic.
ReplyDeleteIt's coming I promise. I would love to get it up by the end of March if I can :)
DeleteImpressive work. I agree, that lava lamp effect is great and really sets the tone of the model. Well done.
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. Glad you like the lava, I had a lot of fun painting it and I think it makes the model stand out nicely to its fellows
DeleteGD spectacular...if you don't get a feature on your army when its all finished, there is no honor on the web. I will run a whole article on it damn it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg. It would be wonderful if I do but I am not troubles if I don't. The satisfaction of having completed as least a core for this project will be reward enough. I might submit it to white dwarf though once I have done enough
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, man - love how that turned out!
ReplyDeleteCheers dude. The blood, sweat and tears were all worth it in the end :)
DeleteI was just reading through the post thinking we needed an army picture. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about themed objectives for them.
Thankyou :)
DeleteI am very close to getting enough for an army pic. It has been a goal fo a while now to paint enough for a core force, and then take a pic.
I had not thought about themed objectives (got a themed terrain piece on the go), but now you have mentioned it I must do some. Now to cook up a few ideas! :)
I am totally helping, just when you think you are finished something more is added :)
DeleteLol :D I always enjoy making something different, and am quite excited to cook up some bizarre carnival markers. Just got to think of 6 different things I can make
