Hobby progress

Well hello dear readers. Forgive my short radio silence but I have been doing all sorts of busy real life things, and little plastic soldiers have had to take a back seat for a little while.

Thankfully I have a few days off coming up and I have quit one of my jobs (minor rant :- seriously, having a second job is soo not worth it. I was getting taxed to the hilt so essentially I ended up working for not very much. Considering most people work a second job because they are skint this seems pretty ridiculous to me. What is the point tax peoples huh??). Not working fridays now means I can hopefully do some more hobby again and get a bit more progress posted up. Posting this not only lets you all know what I am working on but also gives me a target to work towards for the next month or so, until I can get back in the swing of things again.

I have quite a few projects I want to complete, and all are in various stages of completion.

Firsg up is the crew for a Dark Eldar raider I have competed. I dont want to post up any pics until the crew are done and mounted, but the raider is looking pretty sweet, and I cant wait to show it to you all. Getting these done asap means I will finally have another Carnival unit painted and another small milestone crossed in my goal to get 1850pts painted and playable.

Next I have my Dropzone Commander Oppressor. This command unit had been pretty hit and miss for me on the tabletop but I figure a lick of paint should turn his fortune round. Everyone knows painted minis perform better on the tabletop right? He has been sitting in his basecoat and wash for over 6 months now and it is high time I got him done. Once the painful drybrushing is out the way it gets pretty fun, but as you can see I still have the legs to do and then the highlight drybrush, before adding the colours and depth to the model with washes. It wont take much to get him done but the motivation has been lacking somewhat.

Finally a bit of Malifaux. Izamu the armor and Toshiro the daimyo to do. I started strong on painting my resurrectionist crew but waned after the bulk of them was done. Again I am half way through Izamu, but I need a lot more to do on Toshiro. A solid evening on each should finish them both off. Oh time why are you so fleeting?

So wish me luck on my hobby endeavour folks. I hope to post up some of these finished pretty soon. In the meantime I have a few Infinity and Dropzone Models I have finished that I want to show. Just not had time to get the foldio set up and proper snazzy photos done.

Merry Christmas to all of you. I hope santa brings plenty of plastic and resin goodness so your Christmas is filled with glue fumes, sprues and scrapings :)

NafNaf out!

  1. I'd be interested to see the different stages of your scourge painting as I really like the end product Naff. Good to see some Malifaux as well :)

    1. Ok I will do that Rob. Will do a post with stage by stage of the oppressor. It is pretty fun to paint once the base parts are done so I should be able to knock it out this week hopefully.

I love the fact that Malifaux only has a few models needed to get a full crew, so once these two are done I am almost complete :)

  2. both sorry and congrats on no longer having the second job, hopefully you are able to find something else to work out the extra income.
Looking forward to more of your carnival (you started painting that titan yet?)

    1. No worries Joe :) It just was not worth it, and I can do a bit of childcare on fridays to take the pressure off my missus, as well as studying, so the time will be well spent :)

Not started the wraithknight yet. Weather has been so poor here (it is true that it rains all the bloody time here in the UK) that I have not even been able to prime it yet. Got a few ideas formulated in my head for the colours though so hopefully wont be too long before I start on him.

  4. Two jobs, ug. I've considered it now and then when things got really tight, but I knew I would just kill someone if I did it.

I really like the work on that Drop Zone Commander thing (ship/robot/I have no idea). The tones are great where you've blended in those other colors. Awesome job.

    1. Yeah it was not the best. I am pleased it is finished now. My disposable income is going to be lower for quite a while but I will value the time off, and it means I can do some studying too, as well as childcare, and of course more hobbying :)

Thanks, I am Pretty pleased with the scourge colour scheme I have chosen. The washes, coupled with the dry brush add a nice depth and it is quite satisfying to paint (although the beginning bits are always frustrating).

  5. Good stuff man, loving the colors on that oppressor, looks really cool! Sorry to hear the backup job thing didn't pan out.

I'm tentatively dipping my toe in the Infinity pool as well, been interesting trying some other manufacturers. Quite enjoyed painting up some Malifaux minis a while back, and looking forward to seeing what you do with yours!

    Have a great holiday, man!

    1. Thanks. I feel relieved that I can have the time off, although I will be skint for a little while until my main hobs wages go up.

I have found doing other systems to be a real breath of fresh air, and actually invigorates me more for playing 40k (no burnout) as a result. Infinity has some amazing models, and the game play is really involved (if a little complicated). Dropzone has to be the highlight of my year in terms of favourite games. It is so well balanced and tactical that every game feels like a battle to the bitter end and each result pfetn comes down to thet last turn and dice roll. The models are a joy to paint as well. The scale allows for a much simpler paint scheme, where you do t have to be so careful. Letting the washes and drybrushing doing the bulk of the work. Malifaux is great too, although I have only had a few games so far. The models are wonderful. So full of character, amd have th advantage of only needing a few to build up a full crew :)

      Merry christmas :)
