Dreadtober Update - Bjorn With Bling!

I have sneaked a few hours painting in the last couple of evenings and got a little further with my Bjorn pledge for Dreadtober.

He was looking pretty crap for quite a while as I applied all the base colours, but as soon as the final wash hit and dried everything blended together nicely. I always hate the mid way stage of painting where nothing looks good and it seems there is so much to do before any progress can be made. It is at this stage I can get quite de-motivated and tail off painting the model. Quite a few are in my cabinet waiting for me to force myself past that stage of the paint job. Luckily having the goal set for Dreadtober has forced me to continue past, and I finally got to a stage tonight where there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I can enjoy the process of finishing the model.

Onto the pics then. I am pretty pleased with the boat on the base so far, and have only a little painting to go on it to call it finished. For the rest of the model I need to do the highlights on the bone areas, paint the red shoulder pads and pack markings, the gems and the eye sockets on the wolf mask & paint the dread claw and frost cannon. Finally a little weathering and he should be ready for varnishing. I always do a gloss coat followed by testors dullcoat for protection. After this I will re-gloss the gold and add snow to the base and possibly blood effects to the claws. Not much to do then in 11 days :D

NafNaf out!

  2. Good stuff, man! I hear ya about the midpoint 'this looks like garbage' stage in the painting process, always disheartening at the time, but worth powering through. Keep up the great work!

    1. Cheers dude. Yeah it is always the stage I struggle at. So many times I have abandoned a model because all motivation evaporated. Luckily most of them I have re-visited and finished at a later date. Not this one though :)
