Dark Eldar Sslyth conversions painted. The lollipop men cometh!

Dark Eldar Sslyth Conversions
Over the past month I have been slowly painting up a few of my Sslyth conversions, so I have 4 completed and game ready. I have a plan to get at least 1000pts of a list done by the end of the summer and part of that goal is now complete with this 4 man unit. You may recognise the middle one as my keradruah conversion. I painted the other 3 to fit in with his aesthetics.
Lots of different colours were used for this project, contrasting and completentary, but I hope the results do not clash with each other. I do not think they do but I would love to hear your opinions on it.
I really pushed some of my painting skills on this project, and feel my blending has got alot better, and this especially shows on the pink apron on the guy with the big yellow gobstopper. I am really pleased with it. Also I like the skin tones on them all, although I might go one step further on the blending on the next batch.

All in all I am super chuffed with the results. Hope you enjoy :)
NafNaf out!

  1. These are brilliant, aside from the scary clown theme the candy colours alongside the subtle realistic bases are inspired. Certainly more interesting than the standard Sslyth model.

I am pleased you think so. The colour matching was a bit of a challenge but one that I feel has succeeded. Chuffed to hear the bases offset the slightly cartoony effect :)

  2. Just absolutely gorgeous and inspired. Completely creepy and terrifying. I really love them! It's funny, when I first saw the first one being converted on your blog...I was really confused...seeing your vision come to life has been utterly awesome!

    1. Awesome cheers Greg :)

I am glad that you can see where I was going with them and they are suitably creepy :) Painting really brings them to life, whereas the 'greens' can be cool but dont really make sense until seen painted as part of an army.

I have 5 more to paint but I need to finish off a few more models to complete other units yet. I want to finish all my part completed squads and work towards a list for blog wars next july,as my first outing with this army fully painted (plus I am getting side tracked by some terrain I am making for a campaign Arcade81 is cooking up) :)

They were fun to paint but took a while. I am really pleased with how they have come out, and when all 9 are do e it should look really cool on the tabletop

Yes I think they work very well together, which is a relief as there are so many different colours that could go wrong and clash with each other

  5. Fantastic stuff! Conversions are what makes 40k for me and these are absolutely inspired and brilliantly realised in the (suitably gross) flesh.

    1. Hey thanks Tea Urn :)

I too love that about 40k. No other miniature game offers the same breadth of opportunity to convert and create your own story as 40k does. It is why I will always continue to collect

  6. These fatties are just awesome. I really like the skin tone and the purple shading on it. The leaves on the bases is a nice touch and really take the basing up a notch. The lollipops are of course great. Hitting it with a gloss sealer really makes those things look real. Damn impressive looking unit.

I am really happy with my skin tone method (I will prob be doing a tutorial on it soon) so am chuffed you think so too :)

Adding a little interest to a base can go a long way in adding interest to a model, and tie an army together, especially when there are so many different colours involved as is mine

  7. Just amazing NafNaf! The skin tones look amazing and very creepy when offset with those giant suckers. They are a true work of art

I am pretty pleased with the flesh, it required a little more highlighting and blending than usual as the areas are so flat but it was all worth it :)

  8. Really nice skin job. How did paint that creep pale skin?

I use an older GW foundation paint called Dheneb stone as the base (I think current range nearest is Rakarth flesh), wash with a thinned purple wash, then highlight from the Dheneb, slowly mixing in white until the last highligh which is pure white
